The Registered Nurse (RN) in the New Life Unit at Liberty Street Hospital is responsible for coordinating total nursing care for obstetrical patients. This role involves utilizing nursing standards and the nursing process to provide individualized, comprehensive care. The RN will actively participate in patient and family education, ensuring that all parties are informed and involved in the care process. Leadership is a key component of this position, as the RN will work collaboratively with other healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN is accountable for their actions and reports directly to the New Life Unit Manager. In the absence of the manager, the RN will report to the House Supervisor. Additionally, the RN will supervise other nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and OB Technicians, ensuring that all team members are functioning effectively and providing high-quality care. The RN must demonstrate strong judgment and decision-making abilities that align with nursing knowledge and skills. When acting in the charge nurse role, the RN is expected to exhibit leadership qualities that enhance unit functionality and patient care. The position requires a current State of Pennsylvania Registered Nurse Licensure, with a preference for candidates who have at least one year of acute care nursing experience. Certification in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required within the first year of employment. The RN must also possess a current BLS Healthcare Provider card and obtain ACLS certification within six months of assignment. Effective communication skills are essential for this role, as the RN will need to provide clear instructions to surgical staff, patients, and their families. Analytical skills are also necessary to develop and implement appropriate nursing care plans and to address any issues related to the patient's mental or physical well-being. The RN must be able to prioritize tasks, manage the patient care unit, and demonstrate competencies in conflict resolution, staff counseling, and problem-solving.
