Multi-Specialty Critical Care Unit Multi-Specialty Critical Care (MSCC) is a 13- bed critical care unit that provides care for a medically complex patient population. Gastrointestinal bleeds, overdoses, diabetic keto acidosis, respiratory failure, renal failure, and drug/alcohol withdrawal are examples of the more common diagnoses seen on this unit. Many of the patients of MSCC have comorbidities that complicate their course of treatment, which causes the nursing team to collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to provide the best possible care and support. Nursing skills gained on this unit: Excellent assessment skills Critical thinking Effective patient and team member communication Time management Prioritization of care Training for use of specialized equipment Assistance in bedside procedures Unit Culture/Successes/Highlights Focus on the reduction of patient harm events Great teamwork amongst the MSCC staff Beacon award winner - recognized by the American Association of Critical Care Nursing for Quality and Practices
Requirements
- Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
- Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
