The HCW shall provide services as an advanced practice nurse with specialty education and clinical skills. Providing independent management of women’s health care, focusing particularly on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, care of the newborn, family planning, postmenopausal and gynecological needs of women. The HCW shall utilize professional knowledge and skill in physical assessment, clinical management of gynecological and obstetrical problems, health maintenance, disease prevention and management of total health care needs of women and newborns. The primary work settings are the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) and Labor and Delivery Departments, although the HCW may provide services in other areas of the hospital. The HCW shall provide technical guidance of patient care and work with other members of the healthcare team as consultant, clinical guide, mentor, teacher, and/or team member. Services shall be provided in accordance with the Standards for the Practice of Midwifery, as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM). The HCW may be upright in motion and without rest for more than twenty-four (24) hours straight. Clinic and call time rotates and may include weekends and holidays as specified in the position-specific statement of work.
