About The Position

This position is open to experienced nurses and new grad nurses. Location: Domitilla 2D (DO2D), Medical Neurology (General Care) Patient Care Type: Innovation unit which provides the highest quality care to patients on the stroke/cerebrovascular, epilepsy, and general neurology services. Our unit is part of the Joint Commission certified stroke center at St. Marys Campus. Within the epilepsy practice, patients undergo continuous video EEG monitoring for seizure disorders. General neurology patients present with a variety of acute or chronic health problems, often with multiple comorbidities to be managed. Complex discharge planning is often required to return these patients to the community. General medical and neurosurgical overflow patients may also be cared for on this unit. Bed #: 39 (8 of these are specialized for epilepsy monitoring) Nursing Team Roles: The care delivery model is relationship-centered nursing, which is further enhanced through multidisciplinary collaboration. Nursing practice is advanced by neuroscience specialty orientation and curriculum, a portion of the Fundamentals of Critical Care Nursing program, and basic ECG classes. Nurses continue their education by attending neuroscience specialty days and medical specialty nursing conferences. For new grad nurses: All newly graduated Registered Nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience, hired into a scheduled FTE Registered Nurse position on the Rochester campus of Mayo Clinic are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program. A separate application or enrollment process is not required. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
