About The Position

5 North is a 34-bed medical inpatient unit at Trinity Health Ann Arbor, housing medical observation, stroke, and general medicine patient populations. The unit has the capability to monitor up to 16 patients on telemetry. The staff works as an interdisciplinary team to provide respectful, patient-centered care for a diverse patient population. This unit offers significant learning opportunities, allowing nurses to learn and hone many skills, establish a foundation for nursing practice, and develop critical thinking by caring for a variety of diagnoses. Nurses on this unit are required to earn their NIHSS certification within the first 6 months of hire.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a school of nursing that results in the ability of the graduate to sit for the NCLEX exam to become licensed as a Registered Nurse
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • BLS certification
  • Must have a BSN degree or agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire or transfer to an RN role
  • Knowledge of nursing theory, practice and age specific needs
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to perform principal duties and responsibilities of job description
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and analyzes patient information
  • Develops, implements, evaluates and revises an individualized plan of care
  • Uses teach back methodology to educate patient and family
  • Actively seeks to prevent potential hospital acquired conditions
  • Effectively communicates patient status, priority goals and interventions during consultations, rounds and handoffs
  • Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures
  • Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Hospitals
