About The Position

OMCT is seeking a PRN RN/Med Surge at our Reidsville, GA location. Primary Duties:  1. Ability to perform a head- to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy, to include pediatrics, geriatrics and the general patient population. 2. Assessments to include weight, temperature, BP, pulse, respirations and O². 3. Ability to adequately assess, treat and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. 4. Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. 5. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient’s age. 6. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. 7. Follows the five (5) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. 8. Administer medication via all routes per physician order and medication schedule. 9. Must possess excellent IV skills. 10. Follows physician orders related to patient care. 11. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. 12. Electronic documentation of patient care required, to include treatments, medication, patient activity, pain and treatment, dressings, drains etc. 13. Must have knowledge of sterile fields and procedures. 14. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. 15. Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure. 16. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers. 17. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of a care plan. 18. Facilitates patient transfers by preparing patient and family, transfer documents, assuring patient acceptance at receiving facility, giving and documenting patient report and call for transportation. 19. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. 20. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces likelihood of medical/health care errors. 21. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to patient’s needs. 22. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. 23. Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments. 24. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide and collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities. 25. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations. 26. Maintains performance improvement activities for the department. 27. Documentation meets current standards and policies. 28. Performs bedside end of shift reporting. 29. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. 30. Completes annual education requirements. 31. Ensures patient confidentiality at all times. 32. Wears identification while on duty. 33. Maintains standards of professionalism and ethical behavior. 34. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff. 35. Attends committee, CQI, and management meetings as appropriate. 36. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. 37. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. 38. Performs other duties as assigned. Education: RN. Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.   Experience: Minimum one year of professional nursing experience. Clinic experience preferred.  Other Requirements: Current state registered nurse license. Current CPR certificate.  Performance Requirements:  Knowledge: 1. Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures. 2. Knowledge of wellness/illness, growth and development, human behavior, psychosocial factors, and alternative health care treatments. 3. Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.  Skills: 1. Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing, and medical care coordination. 2. Skill in initiating appropriate crisis interventions and emergency response. 3. Skill in patient triage in person and on the phone.  Abilities: 1. Ability to analyze options and then counsel patients and families about choices and make referrals to other providers and resources. 2. Ability to engage clients and families in the development and implementation of a care plan. 3. Ability to read and interpret physicians’ orders and notes from other providers. 4. Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results.  Equipment Operated: Standard nursing equipment and supplies including thermometer and syringes. May involve use of assistive devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, ventilators, pulse oximetry units, and oxygen tanks. May require use of computer.  Work Environment: Medical exam/treatment rooms and medical offices. Controlled lighting, acoustics, air quality, and temperature settings. Environmental hazards may be unpredictable including exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.  Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves standing, walking, bending, grasping, manipulating, and squatting. Occasional need to lift patient during transfer/turn process with or without assistance. Stress can be triggered by workload and complex cases.
