About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Med/Surg unit, with a weekend option for night shifts. The role involves comprehensive patient care, including assessment, intervention, education, and discharge planning. Responsibilities also include coordinating team assignments, participating in staff orientation and quality improvement, and maintaining a safe environment. The nurse is expected to function as a resource for visitors, physicians, and staff, and to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and hospital policies. A $5,000 bonus is available for external candidates who commit to a 24-month term. Johnson Memorial Health is a nationally-recognized healthcare network based in Johnson County, Indiana, with its main hospital in Franklin, Indiana.

Requirements

ACLS or ALS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire (Critical Care Unit).
Must successfully complete dysrhythmia recognition test at initial department orientation (Critical Care Unit).
Must complete ACLS or ALS certification during orientation (Emergency Department).
Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course or PALS must be completed within one year of hire (Emergency Department).
ACLS or ALS Certification required (Maternity Center).
NPR certification is required within 3 months of hire (Maternity Center).
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required.
BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers Certification required.
PALS Certification required for staff who are assigned to care for pediatric patients.

Responsibilities

Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs.
Reassesses patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention.
Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs and recognizes and responds to emergencies.
Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcome.
Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning.
Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based upon patient and unit needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness.
Utilizes appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
Participates in orientation of new staff.
Maintains a neat, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff.
Participates in the unit’s continuous quality improvement plan to improve organizational performance.
Functions as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff; greeting them promptly and courteously.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.
