About The Position

Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and working as part of the Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) Team, the MAT Registered Nurse is responsible for providing services to patients with opioid use disorder in our low threshold, walk-in MAT clinic (WinMAT). Exercises sound, clinical judgment in decision making while providing quality patient care.

Requirements

  • An unencumbered registered nurse license through the state of Ohio
  • One year of experience working with adults with opioid dependence
  • CPR certification and non-violent crisis intervention training (within 60 days of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Assess, monitor, and provide ongoing management and support to patients through all phases of treatment including, the induction, stabilization, and maintenance phases of treatment.
  • Provide registered nurse care appointments with patients on site and in collaboration with the MAT provider and support team.
  • Meet with patients individually to provide comprehensive medication education.
  • Involve family and/or significant others as needed and requested by the patient.
  • Assess patients’ physical status and mental status and assesses for psychiatric symptoms, medication adherence, side effects, and safety factors.
  • When patients agree, develop strategies to maximize the taking of medications as prescribed (e.g., behavioral tailoring, development of individual cues and reminders).
  • Assist patients in developing a system to assure medication adherence.
  • Assist patients in obtaining medications through medication assistance programs as needed.
  • Assess medication for refill needs and takes action to ensure patient needs are met. Manages the medication system by administering and documenting medication treatment and acts as liaison to provider and pharmacies, Promote, educate, and utilize the harm-reduction approach with patients.
  • Engage in health promotion, prevention, and education activities (i.e., conduct assessments for risky behaviors and attempts behavior change).
  • Link clients to internal and external lab services, pharmacies, primary care, specialties, case manager, counselor, and community support.
  • Obtain and monitors patient urine toxicology screens, routine labs as needed,
  • Coordinate, implement, administer IM injections, and performs venipuncture
  • Collaborate in shared appointment with provider, especially if the patient is not doing well or needs a medication change or a dose change or having side effects.
  • Consult with provider whenever necessary to advise patient of most appropriate action and reinforce plan of care.
  • Utilize EMR systems including EPIC, REMS, OARRS, and CliniSync.
  • Maintain complete and appropriate documentation with recordkeeping.
  • Adheres to strict confidentiality and right to privacy.
  • Provides triage line coverage when assigned.
  • Participate in clinical team meetings and treatment planning to assure appropriateness and coordination of care.
  • Maintain organization and safety regarding medications by storing and wasting them according to policy.
  • Follow state and federal guidelines in providing care to patients with opioid dependency in collaboration with licensed, prescribing physicians and pharmacy.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
