Requirements

  • Required – Registered Nursing License
  • Good standing as a licensed Registered Nurse with the state of Texas Board of Nursing
  • Current BLS certifications (PALS preferred)
  • First aid
  • CPR
  • Fluent in English
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Required – Five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse and two (2) years of management experience
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request

  • Demonstrate the ability to: a. Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics. b. Work in a fast-paced environment and maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times, and make decisions based on the needs of the program and service population. e. Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position. f. Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Must be able to perform physical activity such as extensive walking, lifting of patients, stretching, and bending.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and maintain all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Develop medical clinic staffing schedules and assignments, and provide solutions to resolve staffing gaps.
  • Provide medical staff with the necessary training to ensure competence in assigned position and compliance with all quarterly, bi-annual, and annual program training requirements and to Compass Connections staff and service population on medical issues and Compass Connections staff best practices on practices regarding CPR, First Aid, BLS, calling 9-1-1, and controlling contagious disease, quality health care, and emergency response preparedness.
  • Validate the completion of all nursing duties relevant to this position in compliance with all regulatory authorities, and program protocols, including, but not limited to, active and ongoing nursing assessments, charting, scheduling of appointments, routine observations, isolation observations, wellness checks, immunizations, daily, monthly, and yearly reports, yearly, progress notes, initial and annual reports.
  • Supervise, direct, and oversee site medical staff to execute medical services reflected in healthcare plans and treatment orders, including medication administration, to ensure that all treatment orders directed by a physician or midlevel provider are implemented as ordered and immediately upon request.
  • Communicate with pharmacies on ordering prescription medications, check medication deliveries for accuracy and compliance with the doctor’s orders, and remediate any discrepancies.
  • Effectively communicate, consult, and interact with the Deputy Executive Director for Medical Services and the Executive Director on policy and procedure issues affecting the quality of health care services on campus, and issues of contagious disease control when any child on campus is ill with a contagious disease.
  • Maintain adequate over-the-counter medication supplies for each service population facility and arrange proper disposal of unused and expired medications.
  • Maintain documentation of controlled drugs that may be available to include up-to-date reconciliation of all scheduled drugs used in the facility through the facility’s protocols and procedures.
  • Provide required facility documentation and reporting to meet Compass Connections, federal, and state guidelines within the required timeframes.
  • Oversee the development of the medication administration record (MAR) for each child. Audit MARs.
  • Arrange the transport of children to health care appointments, including doctor, dentist, therapy, counseling, lab, and other required transportation visits.
  • Participate in the development of health and medical-related protocols and procedures for a federal program.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions, and operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health care records and information in keeping with HIPAA, Protected Health Information (PHI) requirements, and Compass Connections' confidentiality protocol and procedures.
  • Know, understand, and apply positive behavior management techniques, including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment.
  • Know and recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting, and documenting procedures.
  • Show appreciation and show affection toward children in a manner that is compassionate and professional, minimizing cultural misinterpretations.
  • Adhere to scheduled hours of position, remain available for on-call scheduling, and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed, requested, or deemed appropriate by the Deputy Executive Director for Medical Services and the Executive Director.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize daily work using sound judgment.
  • Implement Compass Connections safety protocols, including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
  • Maintain Compass Connections' professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the Compass Connections' employee handbook, including demonstrating respect for agency staff, children, and community members, and complying with the required dress code at all times.
  • Perform and supervise medical staff to perform nursing duties at designated site(s), to ensure all required duties meet or exceed nursing guidelines and best practices established by the Texas Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses.
  • At designated site(s), supervise, direct, and train medical staff, and coordinate services, following state and federal, and Compass Connections Medical Services Division established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Implement and monitor established health care plans for the service population at the site(s) as prescribed by an advanced practice provider or physician, and apply best practice nursing guidelines.
  • Complete accurate documentation for designated site(s) in accordance with agency policies and procedures, contract and regulatory requirements and standards, and program timeline requirements.
  • Review, write, and update medical protocols and procedures in collaboration with Medical Services and Compass Connections Professional Management Team.
  • Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by the program and federal partners.
