About the position

The Registered Nurse at the Lentz Public Health Clinic is responsible for delivering public health nursing services and implementing nursing care plans within a clinical setting, utilizing a team-based approach. This role involves working closely with individuals, families, and groups to promote health, maintain wellness, and prevent disease. The nurse will be expected to maintain accurate medical records, conduct thorough assessments, participate in research and data collection, provide counseling and preventive services, and perform essential nursing skills. Regular communication with both employees and the general public is a key aspect of this position, as is the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. In this role, the nurse will perform a variety of clinical services, including but not limited to immunizations, family planning, pregnancy tests, STD testing, head lice evaluations, and TB skin tests. The family planning component will involve providing information about birth control options, counseling on pregnancy tests, and collaborating with women's health nurse practitioners to assist with patient evaluations and placement procedures. The nurse will administer services according to established protocols, teach and counsel clients, and make appropriate referrals as necessary. Documentation of all services provided is essential. Additionally, the nurse may be required to float between three preventive health clinics (Lentz, East, and Woodbine) to provide coverage as needed. The position may also involve performing related duties as required, ensuring a comprehensive approach to public health nursing within the community.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Diploma or Associate's Degree in nursing; Bachelor's degree from a state-approved school of nursing preferred.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee or eligible for licensure under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required.
  • Completion of a department-approved Certificate in Public Health as a condition of continued employment.
  • Valid class 'D' driver's license and use of personal vehicle with valid insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multicultural communities.
