About The Position

The MDRO Prevention/Infection Control Nurse is a leader with strong clinical background and works full time. Collaboratively works with the infection control team and assumes responsibility for and evaluates the Medical Center's MDRO Surveillance, Prevention and Control of Infection program. Collaboratively works with the infection control team and assumes responsibility for and evaluates the Medical Center's MDRO Surveillance, Prevention and Control of Infection program. Supports the overall Medical Center Infection Control Program, provides HIV testing, counseling and case management services. The MDRO Prevention/Infection Control nurse assesses, plans, develops, facilitates, organizes, implements and evaluates infection control activities within Nursing Service and the Medical Center, tailored to meet the organizations needs and to facilitate quality patient care. The MDRO Prevention/Infection Control nurse trends and tracks infection control issues and implements system changes and assumes a leadership role to ensure the Medical Center's infection control activities are planned and implemented to improve patient care practice. The nurse ensures data is entered into required reporting entities timely to meet deadlines. The MDRO/IC nurse trends/monitors hand hygiene collaborates with infection control colleagues and makes recommendations to nursing management regarding the enhancement of infection control activities and improving the quality of patient care. The nurse incorporates findings from the infection control processes and patient care issues related to acute care, ambulatory care, extended care and psychiatry targeted towards adult patients ranging in age from 18 to 100 to promote innovation and continuous improvement. Necessary programs are developed to ensure the standards set by VAHQ, VISN, the Medical Center and external regulatory agencies, such as TJC and OSHA, are met.
