About The Position

This is an Interdisciplinary Medical Preoperative Assessment Consultation and Treatment (IMPACT) Clinic vacancy within the Surgical service line of the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center. The incumbent will be based at the University Drive campus.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • English Language Proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years in medical-surgical experience.
  • BSN Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate clinical competency in the completion of core and practice specific procedures/competencies for the IMPACT clinic.
  • Provide pre-operative assessment and patient education to surgical patients evaluated and optimized in the clinic.
  • Collaborate with physicians, CRNPs/PAs, and ancillary services to provide care.
  • Follow the IMPACT Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) specific to the IMPACT clinic and VAPHS.
  • Provide patient assessment, patient care, care coordination, health promotion, and health education.
  • Deliver fundamental knowledge-based care to assigned clients.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific components.
  • Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
  • Perform nursing assessments through face-to-face interviews, telephone assessments, VA Video Connect (VVC), and Clinical Video Teleconferencing (CVT).
  • Utilize all aspects of the nursing process while providing assessment and teaching per the IMPACT and VAPHS SOPs/policies.
  • Practice within the guidelines of the policies and standard operating procedures relative to the continuity of care for pre-operative surgical candidates in the outpatient surgical setting.
  • Demonstrate scope of knowledge base in delivery of thorough and all-inclusive surgical pre-op teaching.
  • Proficiently use multiple computer systems to access remote data to ensure all pertinent medical history is considered.
  • Communicate and collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team, surgical providers, anesthesia, and nursing using SBAR communication for safe patient hand-off.
  • Provide coverage for IMPACT Clinic Nurse Navigators and IMPACT Clinic Surgical Safety Net Nurse Navigators.
  • Maintain certifications in BLS.
