About The Position

The RN will work in a 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) providing care to high acuity patients, including those undergoing cardiac and electrophysiology procedures, as well as managing respiratory failure, cardiac arrhythmias, sepsis, and DKA. The position includes a comprehensive 16-week orientation program that covers the Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO), ACLS certification, and NIHSS certification for new nurses. There is a mentorship program to support new nurses and a residency program for new graduates. The RN will have opportunities for committee participation and a voice in nursing practice, along with professional growth through a Clinical Ladder. The role includes a leadership presence on every shift and serves as a strong foundation for advanced practice degrees. After two years of experience, the RN can pursue certification for Progressive Care Nursing (PCCN), which serves as a steppingstone to ICU/CCU career goals. This is a full-time position requiring 72 hours biweekly, with 12-hour night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM, and every third weekend. The RN is eligible for shift and weekend differentials.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Evidence of participation in educational programs to maintain current knowledge and clinical skills.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Previous nursing experience in specialty area preferred.
  • For Cath Lab, one year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
  • For Cardiac Rehab, two years experience in Critical Care and/or Progressive Care required.
  • For Cardiovascular Services, two years of experience reading cardiac monitors required.
  • For Device Clinic, at least one year of device management services required.
  • Successful completion of EKG course required.
  • At least two years of acute care nursing required.
  • For Emergency Department, at least one year of RN experience in ED or Critical Care required.
  • For Family Birthing Services, a minimum of 1 year Labor and Delivery experience required.
  • For Infusion Services, 6 months of infusion nursing experience required.
  • For Wound Care Center, two years experience in wound care required.
  • For Outpatient Behavioral Health Services, two years experience in Behavioral/Psychiatric nursing required.
  • Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training required.
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Clearance and fingerprinting required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in specialty preferred.
  • CPR certification required.
  • ACLS required for various services or achieved within specified timeframes.
  • PALS required for Emergency, PACU, and Pediatric trained staff.
  • CNOR preferred for OR.
  • CPAN/CAPA preferred for PACU/SDS.
  • CRRN preferred for Rehabilitation Medicine.
  • NRP required for Level II NICU.
  • PMH-BC preferred for Behavioral Health Services.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, direct, and coordinate patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Recognize and treat physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served.
  • Demonstrate safe medication practices.
  • Maintain a professional image reflecting the employee's role in healthcare.
  • Complete chart checks to ensure no missed orders.
  • Accurately transcribe physician's orders.
  • Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills.
  • Assess patient education needs and utilize patient education resources.
  • Attend 50% of staff/committee meetings and in-services for the area.
  • Demonstrate leadership through the nursing process and supervision.
  • Act as a resource person regarding patient care and staff orientation.
  • Respond to delays in a calm manner and provide alternatives.
  • Analyze assessment data, identify priority problems, and document on Plan of Care.
  • Use effective problem-solving skills to plan patient care.
  • Identify critical factors evidencing changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
  • Complete and document discharge assessments against plan of care goals.
  • Initiate and maintain Intravenous Therapy according to IV standards.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Function as a virtual nurse as assigned, including admissions, discharges, and documentation.
