About The Position

Serve as a Research Nurse providing a wide range of technical, clinical and professional services within the SCTR Nexus Clinical Research Unit and satellite locations. Serve as preceptor for new staff and provide leadership to the unit for daily operations. Strong phlebotomy and IV insertion skills required.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and two years of related nursing experience.
  • Licensed as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina.
  • Some positions require a valid driver’s license.
  • Also, some positions require certification in Basic Life Support and/or Basic/Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and one-year related nursing experience.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Requires certification in Basic Life Support prior to the completion of general orientation.

  • Oncology experience preferred.
  • Chemotherapy infusion knowledge and experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients within areas of responsibility whose needs rapidly change and range from uncomplicated to complex. Documents appropriately, research or standard of care. Serves as a role model for other staff related to complex patients and research nursing care.
  • Provide service in a timely manner that demonstrates respect and dignity. Responds to the needs of investigators and coordinators and makes needed changes that assure quality care of research subjects in accordance with research protocols. Flexible and adaptable. Serves as a resource to study teams. Identify and lead quality assessment and improvement processes related to nursing and patient care. Mentor other staff members in the quality process and facilitate changes in practice as needed.
  • Serve as preceptor for new Employees. Develop and customize orientation plans for new employees based on his/her experience level as directed by the Nurse Manager. Develops documentation tools to include flow sheets and training for other staff members not limited to clinic staff.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and directs the day-to-day patient care activities of areas of responsibility utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach and the nursing process; evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care actions. Responsible for additional unit operations as assigned by the Nurse Manager.
  • Utilizes available research tools (SPARC, CWF, eIRB) to review, interpret, analyze, and understand research studies performed in the Research Nexus and throughout the Medical University including, but not limited to, carrying out orders, developing flow sheets, and implementing study procedures. Educating other staff members on the implementation of the study based on the research protocol.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development of self and staff. Assists Nurse Manager with developing continuing education and training for other Nexus Clinic staff nurses. Assume other duties determined to be relevant by the supervisor.
