The Registered Professional Nurse III, Acute Care is accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process. The RN assesses, plans, delivers, coordinates, integrates, and evaluates nursing care related to patient's needs. The RN contributes to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork. The RN III is accountable to assure that care provided is consistent with applicable standards, regulations, statutes and state, federal law. Serves as a resource for other staff and clinicians as required. Provides nursing care and services to patients throughout the life span and in various settings consistent with educational preparation.

Requirements

  • 2 year / Associate degree in Nursing, required.
  • Vocational / Technical Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required.
  • Minimum 3 years Registered Nurse Experience, 1 year must have been in a relevant practice area, required.
  • Must be able to perform as a preceptor, required.
  • Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse, required.
  • BLS certification will be required within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • 4 year / Bachelor's degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • Previous experience as a charge nurse/leadership role, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, analyzes and records relevant patient health data accurately.
  • Analyzes assessment data to identify patient problems.
  • Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
  • Develops a plan of care that describes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements and records interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem.
  • Evaluates the patient's progress toward attainment of identified goals.
  • Adheres to approved, research-based practice standards.
  • Directs and supervises patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel.
  • Acts effectively as charge nurse, group leader or preceptor when assigned.
  • Writes a progress note that demonstrates an understanding of the patient's status.
  • Advocates for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner.
  • Assures that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures.
  • Acts on behalf of patients in an ethical manner.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge and skills in his or her area of practice.
  • Completes required unit credentialing according to departmental policy.
  • Participates in quality improvement processes for the department and institution.
  • Provides One required annual in-service for coworkers.
  • Leads performance improvement initiative demonstrating good organizational skills.
  • Participates in nursing research.
