Requirements

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Vocational / Technical Diploma Professional Nursing Program, required.
  • 4 year / Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • Minimum one year experience as a Registered Nurse, required.
  • Current NYS license as a Registered Nurse, required.
  • BLS certification will be required within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Other certifications may be needed based on department requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process.
  • Assess, plan, deliver, coordinate, integrate, and evaluate nursing care related to patient needs.
  • Contribute to the support of patients through interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Collect, analyze and record relevant patient health data accurately.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify patient problems.
  • Identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient.
  • Develop a plan of care that describes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implement and record interventions appropriate to diagnosis or patient problem.
  • Evaluate the patient's progress toward attainment of identified goals.
  • Adhere to approved, research-based practice standards.
  • Direct and supervise patient care provided by LPNs and support personnel.
  • Demonstrate consideration of safety, effective utilization of equipment and materials, and cost in managing patient care.
  • Act effectively as charge nurse, group leader or preceptor when assigned.
  • Write a progress note that demonstrates an understanding of the patient's status and progress toward achievement of goals.
  • Advocate for patients to ensure that care preserves and protects the patient's autonomy, dignity and rights.
  • Deliver care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity.
  • Ensure that patients have informed consent signed for indicated procedures.
  • Act on behalf of patients in an ethical manner.
  • Adhere to ANA Code of Ethics for Professional Nurses.
  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge and skills in area of practice.
  • Complete required unit credentialing according to departmental policy.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes for the department and institution.
  • Participate in nursing research.
  • Perform other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager.
