Altru’s Nurse Residency program guides new registered nurses through a year-long onboarding process to create a smooth transition from student to professional nurse. This program is designed for Nursing graduates & Upcoming Nursing graduates! Phase One includes weekly learning labs led by nursing educators, focusing on hands-on skill review, Altru Policy/Procedure review, simulation, and interdisciplinary shadow experiences. Phase Two involves monthly learning labs with peers, clinical educators, and other content experts to increase knowledge and skills. Topics covered include Quality, Safety, Teamwork & Communication, Informatics, Patient-Centered Care, Evidence Based Practice, and Care for the Nurse. This phase also incorporates simulation activities such as mega-code, stroke, and declining patient scenarios, along with a patient care project. The Registered Nurse I provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the organization. The nurse maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The nurse facilitates the coordination of patient care within the interdisciplinary care team and provides patient education to assure safe patient discharge.
