About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Labor & Delivery unit. A Bachelor of Nursing degree is preferred unless the candidate is a current MUSC employee. RNs hired on or after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to enroll in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of their hire or reclassification date. Candidates must have licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state, and current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. The position involves providing patient/family-centered care, acting as a partner and adviser, and assisting patients and families in managing their healthcare while respecting their culture, values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred unless current MUSC employee.
• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
• Current AHA BLS certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient/family centered care, acting as partner and adviser.
• Assists and supports patients and families to optimally manage their health care.
• Applies critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment.
• Assists medical staff with preparation, examination, and procedures.
• Interviews/screen patients to obtain personal data and chief complaint.
• Documents findings relevant to patients' health care status or plan of care.
• Prioritizes and documents patient incoming phone calls regarding medications and medical conditions.
• Cleans and stocks examination rooms and/or other supply areas.
• Documents all patient care delivered in the medical record according to policy.
