About The Position

The RN – House Charge serves as a clinical leader and resource to patient care units and other members of the healthcare team. Utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in an orderly, systematic approach to meet the changing needs of patients across the life span.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Associate degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years nursing experience required.
  • Current Wisconsin Nursing License required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required at the time of hire/start date.
  • NIHSS required within 3 months of hire/start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or MSN preferred.
  • House Charge, House Supervisor, ANS, or Emergency Department nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all essential functions of the RN job description. Serves as a resource to patient care units and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other healthcare team members on complex situations and adjusts or recommends nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Support daily operational duties such as patient flow, divert, transfers, staff behavior, and service recovery.
  • In collaboration with staffing office and nurse manager, ensures adequate staffing for current patient volumes and adjusts based on census utilizing staffing tools as provided.
  • Conducts routine rounding in all patient care units to understand current and expected patient volumes, patient flow and staffing.
  • Ensures Chain of Command is properly utilized and followed per policy.
  • Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Evaluates the status of inpatients and outpatients with special attention to confirmation of specific care modalities, such as pain management and identification of risks and planning for interventions.
  • Assesses, evaluates, and documents the disease process and progression for the patient per hospital protocol.
  • Promotes a physically safe hospitalization experience for the patient and family.
  • Facilitates an emotionally and socially satisfying experience for patient and families.
  • Recognizes and respects individual patient choices during hospitalization and acts as patient advocate.
  • Crisis intervention with an emphasis on patient safety, prioritization, and time management for inpatients and outpatients. This includes mobilization of resources for emergencies, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, stabilization and transport if indicated.
  • Facilitate grieving for families with a dying loved one.
  • Must maintain required certifications and assigned departmental education.
