About The Position

The position involves obtaining and documenting patients' medical histories, performing physical assessments, and utilizing proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice and center policies. The role requires the ability to apply dressings, assess patient status, and safely use medical equipment. Additionally, the position entails inserting, assessing, or discontinuing various catheters and tubes, while effectively organizing resources to avoid waste. The individual must observe universal precautions, attend required education, and maintain regular attendance. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Requirements

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English; bilingual language is required if the center is bilingual
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to successfully write business correspondence
  • Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with healthcare team, clients, vendors, and the general public
  • Demonstrates an ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and correct errors
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and forms to understand abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to think critically using inductive and deductive reasoning
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time, i.e., 6-8 hours per day
  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds in weight
  • Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously without 'giving out' or fatiguing
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Ability to position or transport patients, prepare medical procedure rooms, or set up patient care equipment
  • Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position
  • Ability to keep or regain your body balance and stay upright
  • Ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath
  • Ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears
  • Specific vision abilities for close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Responsibilities

  • Obtains and documents patient's medical history and perform physical assessment
  • Uses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice and center policies and procedures
  • Ability to apply dressings and assess status
  • Ability to safely use medical equipment per manufacturer's instructions for use
  • Ability to insert, assess, or discontinue various catheters and tubes
  • Effectively organizes and avoids wasteful practices of time, equipment, and supplies
  • Observes universal precautions

  • Contributes to the progress and development of the center's compliance program
  • Performs according to accreditation requirements, regulatory standards and center policies and procedures
  • Adheres to patients' rights and responsibilities and supports them in performance of job duties
  • Adheres to rules and regulations for Protected Health Information (PHI) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA) protections of patient information
  • Ensures compliance with the center's adopted quality assurance performance improvement program (QAPI), policies and procedures
  • Proactively contributes to the QAPI process and identifies his or her own role and contributions
  • Adheres to best practices and regulations adopted, to provide safety in the workplace
  • Uses surgical safety checklist
  • Monitors the Center's physical environment to ensure the maintenance of safety, comfort, cleanliness, and efficiency
  • Monitors the care, cleaning, and required maintenance of equipment to maintain proper working conditions
  • Reports observed or suspected safety violations and hazards to the Safety Officer; ensure ongoing policy/procedure compliance
  • Adheres to OSHA regulations in performing job duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate patient care needs and significant information to healthcare team
  • Works collaboratively with center leadership on patient and staff scheduling according to policies, procedures, and center needs
  • Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with physicians, managers, employees, clients, vendors, and the general public
  • Interacts with others in a positive, respectful and considerate manner
  • Works collaboratively with the healthcare team
  • Delegates staffing duties appropriately to unlicensed assistive personnel and LVN/LPN, accordance with scope of practice and center policies and procedures
  • Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure non-compliance to Center Leader, Safety Officer, and Clinical Director
  • Actively participates in staff meetings, in-services, continuing education, and the quality improvement (QAPI) program
  • Uses Center resources appropriately and avoids wasteful practices
  • Reports wasteful practices
  • Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements
  • Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences
  • Maintains membership in professional organizations per center requirements
  • Seeks new learning experiences by accepting challenging opportunities and responsibilities
  • Shares knowledge gained in continuing education with center personnel
  • Assists Center Leadership with orientation and training of new personnel
  • Demonstrates ability to act as a resource for problems related to patient care
