About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Float Pool at VA Bedford is designed to cover staffing shortages across various inpatient nursing units. The RN will be responsible for providing and supervising direct patient care, assessing and planning care based on age-specific components, and coordinating patient transitions through the continuum of care. This role requires flexibility to float to different units, including long-term care, dementia, hospice, domiciliary, and mental health, while ensuring high-quality patient care and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English as per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and supervise direct patient care in a short-term mental health treatment program.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific components.
  • Coordinate care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care.
  • Educate patients and families on self-management after discharge.
  • Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to influence care outcomes.
  • Participate in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives.
  • Perform charge nurse duties, including medication administration and documentation.
