About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Float Registered Nurse to provide high-quality care to critically ill or injured patients in our 3-bed ICU at Cottage Hospital with floating to the ED for lower acuity patients and the Medical Surgical unit. As part of our critical access hospital, you will care for a diverse patient population, including post-surgical and medical cases, while also supporting our mixed-acuity inpatient unit as needed. Job Summary The Float RN is responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care within the scope of practice. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to assess and respond to changes in patient condition, and delivering age-appropriate care across the lifespan in accordance with hospital policies and standards.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients, recognizing and responding to changes in condition
• Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, and families, including during emergencies
• Provide continuous, high-quality care throughout the patient’s stay
• Prioritize care for patients with complex needs and develop individualized care plans
• Utilize critical thinking in clinical decision-making, including medication administration and evaluation
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
• Educate patients, families, and peers; delegate tasks appropriately
• Maintain clinical competency through ongoing education and adherence to standards of practice
• Address patient care concerns promptly and escalate as appropriate
