About The Position

Demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice while providing care to clients. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Registered Nurse - Float Pool The Float Pool Registered Nurse is a highly skilled practitioner who provides direct and indirect nursing care to residents and families in the Acute Care Units (Cardiology, Medical Oncology, Medical Surgical Services) Spinal Cord Injury Units, Polytrauma Units, Community Living Center (CLC), Palliative Care/Hospice, and the Emergency Department. Demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs and specific care of the patients served in the assigned area of practice. Responsible for management of patient duties related to admissions, pre-procedure care, post-procedure care and bedside procedures. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to manage holistic patient centered care as dictated by the patient's medical and surgical needs. Cardiac/Telemetry Monitoring is part of this position and can/will be trained upon hire. Proficient in Advanced Vascular Access Care and Maintenance. BLS & ACLS certification is required for this position and can be obtained upon hire. Facilitation of Homecare referrals and recommendations to support ongoing veteran needs. Professional communication and conduct. Recognizes and supports Suicide Prevention initiatives. Compliance with various Isolation Precautions and Infection Control Guidelines. Skills in time management, priority setting, assessment and urgent intervention are essential for this unit. Maintains prevention & management of disruptive behavior skills, can be trained upon hire. Participation in High Reliability Organization (HRO) & Professional Governance initiatives. Promotes and integrates Evidence-based Best Practices VETERAN/PATIENT DRIVEN CARE: Provides Veteran/patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for assigned patients. Expectations: 1. Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to achieve optimal function through assessment and treatment of their health enhancing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety. 2. Treats all patients, families and other caregivers with dignity and respect incorporating knowledge, values, and beliefs into nursing care delivery without judgement or discrimination. 3. Recognizes ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and behaves in an appropriate manner through observance of established policies and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE/RESEARCH: Applies evidence-based practice/research, considering patient preferences to improve quality of care and resource utilization for assigned patients. Expectations: 1. Seeks out new learning opportunities and shares evidence-based practice/research with peers to improve patient care. 2. Shares techniques to deliver cost-effective care with peers. 3. Seeks opportunities to participate in unit level performance improvement activities. Customer Services Requirements: The incumbent meets the needs of the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran's representative, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff and other customers while supporting VA missions
