About The Position

This Registered Nurse (RN) (Float Pool Intermittent) position is located within the Associate Director-Patient Care Service at the VA Bedford Healthcare System. This position is intermittent/per diem. The Register Nurse is a member of the Float Pool at VA Bedford. The Float Pool is designed to cover staffing shortages that occur on a day-to-day basis. The Float Pool RN is assigned to an inpatient nursing unit by the Nurse of the Day (NOD) based on staffing needs in the organization for that shift and the individual's competency level.

Requirements

  • 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
  • Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care in a short-term mental health treatment program
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction
  • Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs
  • Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care
  • Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction
  • Responsibilities also include charge nurse duties, medication administration, documentation, and assistance with ADLs
  • Other duties as assigned.
