About The Position

The Registered Nurse position in Polk County is responsible for providing healthcare management, physical assessment, care, and treatment for minor injuries to students enrolled in K-12 schools. The role involves addressing medical emergencies, maintaining health records, and facilitating communication between students, parents, and healthcare professionals. This full-time position requires on-site work from Monday to Friday, focusing on continuous quality improvement in healthcare delivery within the school environment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Nursing.
  • Bachelor degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Nursing license.
  • Hold BLS, First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working with children in a hospital and/or school and community-health nursing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency including basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to assist students in carrying out specialized therapeutic or physical care plans.
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and HIPAA laws of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in meeting the health needs of the general school population and students with specific health conditions.
  • Provides direct care utilizing professional assessment skills and established school health policies.
  • Charts and maintains accurate records of activities performed, including medications dispensed and nursing notes.
  • Initiates and maintains accurate student health records and individualized healthcare plans.
  • Establishes effective procedures for mandatory screening programs and submits required reports.
  • Communicates with parents regarding individual students and serves as a liaison between school personnel and healthcare professionals.
  • Provides supervision supporting behavior management programs and participates in conflict resolution meetings.
  • Contributes to campus communications regarding health issues and attends ARD meetings for students with health needs.
  • Develops and implements Individual Health Plans for medically fragile students.
  • Collaborates with district personnel regarding health-related IEP goals and services.
  • Educates faculty and staff on health-related topics as needed.
  • Ensures safe and sanitary conditions of the school clinic and stocks supplies as necessary.
  • Provides consultation to campus administration in crisis/emergency situations.
  • Prepares and dispenses medications to students according to physician orders and schedules.
  • Participates in staff development to maintain professional nursing skills.
