About The Position

*** $20,000 Sign on Bonus Available *** The CVOR Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) position is responsible for the care of a designated group of patients in a structured setting through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development relative to patients served and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies, procedures, and standards of care. Performs the harvest of the saphenous vein graft for bypass surgeries under the direction of the surgeon. Requirements

  • BSN preferred.
  • Licensed as RN in State of Illinois required.
  • Current CPR certification per policy required.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
  • Previous experience in a CVOR setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently exceed above average performance requirements in all three operating room roles: scrubbing, circulating and first assisting.
  • Ability to position and/or transfer an average adult patient.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing.
  • Ability to perform difficult manipulative skills such as IV insertion and IM injections.

  • Acts and communicates in a professional manner that enhances satisfaction.
  • Initiates appropriate intraoperative behaviors unique to first assistant.
  • Provides hemostasis to reduce potential for post-operative infection.
  • Uses surgical instrumentation skillfully as directed by the surgeon.
  • Sutures skillfully all varieties of tissue with appropriate techniques.
  • Coordinates the surgical team in appropriate draping technique for assigned procedures.
  • Maintains competence by performing a minimum of 12 cases per calendar year.
