About The Position

The position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the NICU department at Advocate Health, which is a full-time role requiring 36 hours per week. The schedule includes working three nights a week from 1900 to 0730, with a rotation for weekends and holidays. The RN will utilize the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of care. The role involves collaborating with healthcare team members, anticipating changes in patient conditions, and ensuring patient safety. The RN will also participate in quality improvement initiatives and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing.
  • 1 year of experience in clinical nursing.
  • Proficient computer skills and use of electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical, independent decisions.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates time management skills and ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

  • Uses the nursing process to assess patient needs and implement individualized interventions.
  • Includes patients and families in planning and implementing care.
  • Anticipates and recognizes significant changes in patient conditions.
  • Provides ongoing assessment and takes appropriate actions when changes occur.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to coordinate patient-centered care.
  • Implements strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
  • Assesses patient and family readiness to learn and individualizes the approach.
  • Coordinates discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Applies evidence-based practice to deliver patient care.
  • Incorporates nursing and regulatory standards of care into practice.
  • Evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes and takes appropriate action.
  • Supports shared governance activities to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promotes collaboration among healthcare team members.
  • Assumes a leadership role in the care team and delegates appropriately.
  • Promotes a culture of safety and reports patient safety events.
  • Participates in quality/process improvement initiatives.
  • Engages in professional development and attends required meetings.
