About The Position

The Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients of any age group admitted to the area employed. The Registered Nurse provides direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Registered Nurse supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Current RN license in the State of Texas
• BLS certification
• Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire

Responsibilities

• Conform to the Nurse Practice Act for the State of Texas.
• Utilize a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care by performing comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patient.
• Make nursing diagnoses that serve as the basis for the strategy of care.
• Develop a plan of care based on the assessment and nursing diagnosis.
• Implement nursing care and evaluate the patient's responses to nursing interventions.
• Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel considering patient safety and the educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and physical and emotional ability of the person to whom the assignments are made.
• Implement measures to promote a safe environment for patients and others.
• Know the rationale for and the effects of medications and treatments and correctly administer them.
• Maintain required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards.
• Clarify any order or treatment regimen that the nurse believes is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner.
• Institute appropriate nursing interventions that might be required to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications.
