About The Position

Endoscopy RN is a valuable member of the Perioperative, Endoscopy, and Surgical team. Responsibilities of an Endoscopy RN include, but are not limited to checking patients in upon their arrival to Perioperative Services, initiating peripheral IV, completing medication reconciliation, providing teaching, assisting with positioning for procedure, administering and monitoring moderate sedation as needed per policy, assisting with endoscopic procedures, and specimen collection.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion required.
Current RN license in MA.
Current AHA ACLS Certification
Prior endoscopy experience strongly preferred.
In the absence of endoscopy experience minimum other experience, such as 1 year of recent Med/Surg, ED, ICU, OR, peri-operative or OB will be considered.
Excellent communication, critical care and critical thinking skills are must.
Willingness to cross train within peri-operative services preferred.
Must be able to take call per departmental needs

Safely administers medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician’s orders, protocols, policies and procedures.
Assesses patient pain level upon admission and as necessary, depending upon diagnosis utilizing the numerical pain scale.
Reassesses effectiveness of pain control and notifies physicians as needed, as well as, documents assessment and patients’ response to medication.
Initiates and administers IV's in accordance with physician orders and nursing policy and procedure to support required treatment.
Observes and documents patients' response to intravenous therapy.
Safely administers and monitors patients receiving blood and blood products according to policy and procedure and observes and documents patients response to blood transfusions
Assesses and reassesses patients undergoing endoscopy procedures and documents patient care in the Meditech NUR Module.
Monitors and observes patients continuously during endoscopy procedures giving special attention to oxygenation, ventilation and heart rate and rhythm.
Administers IV conscious sedation safely and in accordance with physician orders and nursing policy and procedure.
Responsible for obtaining supporting information and completing required documentation related to medication reconciliation for use by the Attending MD.
