Job Summary The RN – Endoscopy provides nursing care to patients undergoing gastrointestinal and related endoscopic procedures. This includes pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure assistance, monitoring of sedation and patient response, and post-procedure recovery. The RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care throughout the procedural experience.
Requirements
- Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills.
- Proficient in IV therapy, sedation monitoring, and airway management.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Familiarity with endoscopic equipment, sterile technique, and procedural workflow.
- Competency in electronic documentation and EMR systems.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and team collaboration.
- Physical ability to assist with patient positioning and respond to clinical demands.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), required.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS), required within time frame specified in facility policy.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), required within time frame specified in facility policy.
- Minimum 6 months of clinical nursing experience in a direct patient care setting preferred.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), preferred.
- Previous endoscopy, perioperative, or critical care experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care before, during, and after endoscopy procedures.
- Administers and monitors conscious sedation and manages patient responses during procedures.
- Assists physicians with endoscopic procedures including biopsies, polyp removal, and hemostasis.
- Monitors patient condition, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms, reporting changes promptly.
- Provides pre- and post-procedure patient education and discharge instructions.
- Documents all nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment, adheres to infection control and safety protocols.
- Handles specimens appropriately and ensures proper labeling and documentation.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives and staff education.
- Responds effectively to emergencies and follows facility emergency protocols.
