The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, with an employment type of .6 FTE (48 hours per pay period) and a work schedule of Evening/Night. The ER has a total of 10 beds and sees a variety of cases from pediatric to geriatric patients.

Requirements

  • Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
  • Equivalent of one (1) year Critical Care experience within the past five years.
  • ECG recognition/interpretation within 6 months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification or attain certification within six months of employment.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advance Life Support (CALS) certification or attain certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Emergency Department experience preferred.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
  • Consideration for those with one (1) year RN experience, Paramedic, EMT, ED Internship, or ED Capstone experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff and physicians priorities within short time frames and organize workload.
  • Provide quality care to all patients and ensure patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care.
  • Complete admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication and physical assessment.
  • Identify nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions.
  • Assess the individual needs of adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients and develop appropriate plans of care.
  • Maintain accurate, objective patient records.
  • Ensure efficiency and accuracy of orders.
  • Assume patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively.
  • Utilize department equipment correctly and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate nursing skills/competencies including IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, and infection control measures.
  • Communicate professionally and collaborate effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and health care team members.
  • Ensure plan of care is consistent with nursing standards and hospital policy.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of The Joint Commission standards.
  • Collaborate with and delegate to ancillary/professional staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in professional growth and self-development activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, committees and projects.
  • Be willing to be cross-trained to ICU.
