The Registered Nurse is responsible for the quality of patient care provided to an assigned group of patients. This role indirectly supervises all nursing personnel assigned to the group of patients for whom he/she is coordinating. Key responsibilities include performing basic patient care procedures and medication administration, organizing patient care, conducting ongoing patient assessments focusing on age, physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status, and evaluating data collected by caregivers. The nurse develops and implements patient care plans tailored to the patient's age, identifies and addresses patient/family learning needs from admission to discharge, and designs patient teaching strategies. The position also involves evaluating the effectiveness of interventions, continually reassessing care based on new data, communicating changes in patient condition, charting observations, adjusting care plans, assigning personnel, delegating tasks, assuming a Charge position when assigned, seeking guidance, and participating in interdisciplinary Quality Improvement activities.
