About The Position

The position involves obtaining and recording initial assessments of patients, establishing priorities based on patient age, symptoms, and psychosocial needs. The nurse will reassess patients systematically to identify progress and trends that require intervention, implementing and documenting timely interventions appropriate to patient needs while recognizing and responding to emergencies. Comprehensive nursing decisions will be made based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcomes. The role includes participating in patient and significant other health education and discharge planning, coordinating team assignments, and making adjustments based on patient and unit needs. The nurse will follow up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness, utilizing the appropriate chain of command for resolution of difficult issues. Additionally, the nurse will participate in the orientation of new staff, maintain a neat, organized, and safe environment for patients and staff, and participate in the unit’s continuous quality improvement plan to improve organizational performance. The nurse will function as a resource to visitors, physicians, and staff, greeting them promptly and courteously, and will perform other related duties as assigned. All activities must be conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures, including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Requirements

  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana required.
  • BLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers Certification required.
  • PALS Certification required for staff who are assigned to care for pediatric patients.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS or ALS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire for Critical Care Unit.
  • Must successfully complete dysrhythmia recognition test at initial department orientation for Critical Care Unit.
  • Must complete ACLS or ALS certification during orientation for Emergency Department.
  • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course or PALS must be completed within one year of hire for Emergency Department.
  • ACLS or ALS Certification required for Maternity Center; NPR certification is required within 3 months of hire.
