About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department at Mayo Clinic is responsible for coordinating nursing care, providing direct patient care, and educating patients and families. This role emphasizes professional nursing practice across various settings and ensures that patient needs are met through effective communication and leadership. The RN will work within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, focusing on planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The position requires flexibility in working hours and may involve driving personal vehicles as part of the job responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program recognized by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA.
  • One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required if graduated from a non-accredited program.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required; prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency for Arizona and Florida.
  • Greater than 1 year ICU or ER experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is preferred.
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate nursing care for patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Provide direct patient care and educate patients and families.
  • Support professional nursing practice across various settings.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and communicate all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Delegate patient care based on skill level, experience, and patient acuity.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts and serve in leadership roles as needed.
  • Mentor and teach other staff members.
  • May be required to drive personal vehicle as part of job responsibilities.
