About The Position

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse provides care that addresses the specific needs of age groups from infant to elderly and is also individualized to a variety of needs specific to impairments, such as hearing, sight, substance abuse, non-English speaking, and potential victims of abuse. The Emergency Department RN incorporates knowledge and understanding of our commitment to patient rights, our mission, vision, and values into nursing practice. The Emergency Department RN assumes full and ultimate responsibility for the quality of nursing care she/he provides to individuals and groups. Included in such responsibility is health maintenance, teaching, counseling, collaborative planning and restoration of optimal functioning, and/or comfort for the dignified death of those they serve. The Emergency Department RN, within the parameters of his/her generic and continuing education experience, may delegate nursing acuities to other registered nurses and/or health care personnel, provided that the delegating Emergency Department RN shall bear full and ultimate responsibility for the patient outcomes. The Emergency Department RN must have excellent assessment skills, clinical skills, organizational skills, and computer knowledge and charge capabilities. The Emergency Department RN must be able to lift, transfer and move patients. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language. Able to complete mathematical computations required to perform treatment protocols.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in an emergency department preferred.
  • Nursing degree required: diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred).
  • Ability to obtain BSN within 4 years required.
  • Valid Massachusetts RN license and BLS certification required.
  • ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized nursing care to patients of all age groups.
  • Incorporate knowledge of patient rights and organizational values into nursing practice.
  • Assume full responsibility for the quality of nursing care provided.
  • Engage in health maintenance, teaching, counseling, and collaborative planning.
  • Delegate nursing tasks to other registered nurses and healthcare personnel as appropriate.
  • Maintain excellent assessment, clinical, and organizational skills.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Perform mathematical computations necessary for treatment protocols.
