About The Position

The Float Pool Registered Nurse position at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center offers a dynamic night shift role that allows nurses to rotate between various units including ED Boarding, Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, and ICU. Nurses will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while adapting to different unit workflows and maintaining clinical excellence.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of 18 months of Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience (2 years preferred).
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical records.
  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical, independent decisions.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a float pool or similar role.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Experience with NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).

Responsibilities

  • Use the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement interventions, and evaluate care effectiveness.
  • Include patients and families in care planning and maintain therapeutic relationships.
  • Anticipate and recognize significant changes in patient conditions and needs.
  • Provide ongoing patient assessments and take appropriate actions when changes occur.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate patient-centered care.
  • Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety.
  • Assess patient and family readiness to learn and individualize learning approaches.
  • Coordinate discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Apply evidence-based practices in patient care.
  • Incorporate nursing and regulatory standards into practice.
  • Evaluate patient, team, and unit outcomes and take action when necessary.
  • Support shared governance activities to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Promote collaboration among healthcare team members.
  • Assume leadership roles and delegate appropriately.
  • Promote a culture of safety and report safety events timely.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
