About The Position

The Donor Care Unit (DCU) is a collaboration between M Health Fairview UMMC and LifeSource to provide specialized and dedicated care to organ donors. Located within the Park Plaza building, the DCU contains 4 Intensive Care Unit beds and 2 Operating Room suites to accommodate the organ evaluation and procurement process. The Critical Care RN will work closely with DCU Providers and LifeSource throughout the organ evaluation process to ensure donor management goals are met. The RN will be responsible for close observation, hemodynamic monitoring, medication management, assistance with bedside procedures and respiratory support for the organ donor. Critical thinking and effective communication with all the members of the care team and families will be required. This is a casual position consisting of on-call shifts. RN will be activated when there is a donor present. As an ICU RN, you will be responsible for: Assessing donor needs and identifying expected nursing outcomes; Developing an individualized nursing plan of care; Implementing interventions as needed during treatment based on the plan of care; Evaluating care and donor response to interventions and expected outcomes; Using communication strategies to achieve desirable outcomes; Coordinating care with members of the health care team and delegating responsibilities to others as appropriate; Demonstrating the ability to advance care by applying standards, guidelines, care pathways, and continuous improvement to enhance patient outcomes; Promoting a culture of evidence based practice (EBP) by participating in a multitude of available opportunities; and Performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

Requirements

  • AD
  • One year of ICU experience
  • Current MN RN License
  • BLS
  • ACLS

Nice To Haves

  • BSN or BAN
  • CRRT
  • Prior work with organ donors
