About The Position

Scarborough Health Network- Diagnostic Imaging (DI) employs a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care utilizing the skills of physicians, specialized technologists and a number of other professionals. Diagnostic Imaging program is offering an opportunity to Registered Nurses interested to work in Interventional Radiology who are registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). At the General Site, DI has opened its newly built facilities and expanding Interventional care by adding an additional Angiography imaging suite and a 10-bed prep and recovery unit. RNs will have an opportunity to scrub and circulate in IR procedure rooms, prep and recovery area, as well as Ultrasound and CT guided procedures. Reporting to the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care and practice activities in a multidisciplinary family centered care environment. The nursing role involves a collaborative approach to the coordination of Diagnostic procedures with all units in the hospital. The nurse will assist the radiologists in performing procedures and support the technical staff in assuring a high quality of patient care at the General, Birchmount, and Centenary sites. Demands of the role include supporting a busy patient program the nurse will actively manage multiple patients, including preparation and recovery. All staff are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment which will include a protective lead apron. Requirements

  • Current RN certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Critical Care certificate from a recognized institution or equivalent experience, required
  • Currently Certified in BCLS and ACLS at Health Care Provider level
  • Minimum 2 years current emergency, and/or critical care nursing experience required
  • Minimum 1 year current DI experience an asset
  • Proficient in IV Insertion
  • Able to initiate cardiac monitoring, identify cardiac dysrhythmias, and administer and monitor patients receiving procedural sedation
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development to maintain competency in Interventional Radiology and pre/post-recovery care
  • Available to provide on-call support evenings, weekend, and holidays
  • Must be able to wear Radiation Personal Protective wear (approx. 20-25 lbs lead aprons) for extended periods of time
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
  • Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
