Bachelor's prepared Registered Nurse Diabetic Educator develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates instructional material to provide individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage their diabetes at an optimum level. This position serves as a consultant in the hospital, home or outpatient setting, and as an educator for health care providers and other groups/organizations in the community. This RN is a liaison between and among members of the healthcare team and providers to ensure optimal patient care. Demonstrates knowledge in specialty area, nursing theory, and standards of nursing practice. Has the ability to work independently to assess patients and prioritize multiple demands while maintaining a flexible schedule. Excellent communication skills including writing and public speaking. Requires the ability to learn new skills in the use of equipment and computers. Minimum 2 years nursing experience preferred. BSN or willing to obtain within 3 years. Advanced education in Diabetes Management or expressed willingness to complete advanced education preferred. Opportunity for advancement after completing a professional diabetes management program obtaining Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES). Current Iowa RN license required.
