Registered Nurse – Day Habilitation Position Summary: Abilities First is seeking a full time Registered Nurse responsible for monitoring and meeting the healthcare needs of individuals within the Day Habilitation Services Program. Schedule: Monday - Friday, 36.25 hours per week, day shift

Requirements

  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse by the NYS Department of Education.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Possess verbal and written communication skills in English to ensure adequate regulatory documentation.
  • Have the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Have the ability to push and pull adults in wheelchairs, lift, bend, squat, turn in the knees, pivot, and grasp with both hands (in order to properly and safely perform the techniques taught in CPR/First Aid, behavior intervention techniques, and lifting and carrying techniques), with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Valid NYS driver's license deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier and ability to visit local program sites as needed.

  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • The provision of nursing services to individuals with developmental disabilities in the Day Habilitation Program.
  • Provide training and oversight to staff in health-related matters.
  • Monitor and ensure proper handling and storage of medications.
  • Administer medications as needed.
  • Supervise annual recertification for medication certified staff.
  • Establish professional relationships with other agencies, hospitals, health related facilities, clinics, and laboratories.
  • Act as a liaison between the Day Habilitation Program and Residential Services Providers, ensuring continuity of health care between programs.
  • Provide emergency first aid to program participants and staff
  • Completes all required documentation as it relates to the healthcare of the individuals.
  • Adheres to all agency and regulatory health and safety guidelines and requirements.
