Join us as we build on our promise to advance pediatric care—and your career. The Cardiac Operating Room Suite has dedicated OR space and a hybrid room shared with the cath lab. Patients in the CTOR range from newborn through adult. This position requires on-call responsibility with a response time within thirty (30) minutes. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse safely delivers care as a competent-to-proficient practitioner of nursing. The nurse at this level, demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems —specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. In addition, the nurse demonstrates clinical leadership skills by contributing to standards of care and unit goals. The nurse serves as a role model for other staff and a preceptor for new employees. He/she participates in endeavors to increase knowledge.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma Nursing - Required
  • At least one (1) year Previous RN experience - Required
  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross) - upon hire - Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing - Preferred
  • Pediatric or area of specialty experience - Preferred
  • Strong scrubbing and circulating skills - Preferred
  • Certified Perioperative Nurse - Operating Room Nurse Certification (CNOR) - Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) - upon hire - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Competently scrubs on complex congenital heart cases.
  • Makes daily staffing assignments.
  • Participates in collection of specimens for clinical research projects. Identifies research projects that influence nursing practice in the Cardiac OR.
  • Provides orientation for new staff.
  • Develops systems that promote efficient and cost-effective care and quality.
