About The Position

The Registered Nurse - Critical Care Inpatient Hemodialysis position at the VA is responsible for providing direct care to acutely and critically ill patients, particularly those at high risk for life-threatening health issues. This role integrates biopsychosocial concepts and technical nursing skills to ensure comprehensive patient care, while also serving as a primary nurse for a panel of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients. The position emphasizes documentation, monitoring patient outcomes, and contributing to nursing education and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory as a registered nurse.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by recognized accrediting bodies.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct care for acutely/critically ill patients at high risk for life-threatening health problems.
  • Functioning as the primary nurse for the ESRD patient panel and assisting patients in navigating the healthcare system.
  • Completing documentation for clinical and technical recordkeeping in electronic health records and treatment flowsheets.
  • Monitoring trends and reporting ongoing care continuity needs and outcomes to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Assisting in the provision of nursing education, orientation, and competencies, and contributing to quality improvement and outcomes utilization.
