About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse – Correctional to provide temporary staffing support within a medium-security correctional healthcare setting . This role supports coverage for vacant positions as well as regular staff absences, including scheduled days off, sick leave, and vacations. This opportunity is part of a state-issued RFQ process . Selection is contingent upon the outcome of the bid review, and interview decisions may take additional time due to state review timelines. Day shift coverage with flexibility required across facility operating hours Availability to work weekends and holidays is required Up to 40 hours per week Semi-independent practice environment with physician on-call

Requirements

Active Registered Nurse license (New York State)
Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience
Acceptable backgrounds include Medical-Surgical, Emergency Room, or ICU
CPR certification
Current annual TB test
Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong clinical judgment
Dependable, professional, and compliant with correctional security protocols
Legal authorization to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

Prior experience working in correctional healthcare settings
Previous employment within state correctional systems

Responsibilities

Assess medical complaints from incarcerated individuals and facility staff
Receive and document provider orders and prescriptions
Enter laboratory orders and create requisitions
Administer medications in compliance with protocols
Perform end-of-shift narcotics, sharps, and tool counts
Respond to emergency sick calls and medical emergencies, including AED use
Provide vaccinations, wound care, and diabetic care
Conduct inmate health education and evaluations
Utilize computer systems efficiently, including Microsoft applications and facility-based programs
Maintain strict compliance with all security and safety directives
