About The Position

The mission of Anoka County Community Corrections is Working to Build a Safer Community. The department has an immediate opening for a Registered Nurse, Correctional Health, who is responsible for providing medical services to individuals housed in a minimum‑security correctional environment (the Anoka County Workhouse). This setting serves adults sentenced to a period of incarceration, many of whom are working in the community or preparing for reentry, creating a unique opportunity to support both individual health and long‑term community safety. In this role, the Correctional Health Nurse delivers direct, patient‑centered care to an incarcerated population, including assessment, triage, medication administration, and management of a wide range of health needs. The nurse collaborates with medical providers, mental health staff, and corrections personnel to ensure continuity of care within the facility. Emphasis is placed on health education and connecting patients with community resources to promote successful reintegration. Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree.
  • At least two years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota.
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check.
  • Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to meet the psychological, physical, and mental health needs of inmates.
  • Perform assessments of inmates in settings such as intake/booking, health assessments and administering Mantoux, chronic care, medical unit, and emergencies throughout the facility.
  • Assess sick calls/Kites including Alcohol (CIWA) and Drug (COWS) withdrawals.
  • Review and assess prescribed medications brought in by inmates, coordinate and administer medication and treatment to inmates.
  • Verify inmate medication list with pharmacy and call site provider for orders to initiate as directed.
  • Arrange for additional health care, including appointments for dental, medical, psychological, laboratory and other treatment modes.
  • Implement nursing care and medical orders in a knowledgeable, safe, and responsible manner.
  • Maintain all medical records related to health and medical screening and medical treatment administered to inmates while incarcerated.
  • Train correctional officers and staff regarding medical procedures.
  • Promote and demonstrate effective communication skills.
