About The Position

The Nurse Clinician II (NCII) has the knowledge and skills necessary to meet standards for professional practice as specified in the Texas Nursing Practice Act and by Correctional Health Nursing Service. Practice patterns of competent generalists are characterized by the application of standards, principles, and clinical algorithms to patient care situations. The NCII independently and safely manages patients with conditions common to the assigned clinical area, recognizes when assistance is needed, and seeks appropriate resources to ensure high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Texas
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program
  • Additional certifications as required by unit/service
  • Minimum one (1) year full-time RN experience
  • Above average verbal communication (heavy public contact)
  • Writing/composing correspondence and reports
  • Must accurately interpret and communicate clinical information in English, both verbally and in writing, and effectively communicate with patients, families, and significant others
  • PC proficiency
  • Mathematics, Medical Terminology

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Exceptional verbal communication (e.g., public speaking)
  • Bilingual skills preferred (any language)
