About The Position

The RN Clinical Expanded Role I is responsible for implementing and supporting special clinical projects and assignments as designated by the manager, according to the needs of the department. This position acts as a resource to the RN Staff position as a knowledge expert to improve patient care. This position will help support 1 provider at 3 different clinic locations (Utah Valley, American Fork, and Saratoga Springs Cancer Centers). The role involves assessing physical, social and psychological status of patients, collaboratively developing individualized plans of care, directing the interdisciplinary care team, evaluating patient response to interventions, and promoting the nursing profession. It also includes providing clinical expertise in the assigned specialty area, participating in Clinical Program initiatives, assisting in policy development, serving as a consultant/liaison, acting as a resource and mentor to staff, and utilizing current research to improve nursing practice.

Requirements

  • Current RN License in state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Current ACLS Certification.
  • 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
  • Experience in assigned clinical area.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Current PALS Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing and supporting special clinical projects and assignments as designated by the manager, according to the needs of the department.
  • Acting as a resource to the RN Staff position as a knowledge expert to improve patient care.
  • Supporting 1 provider at 3 different clinic locations (Utah Valley, American Fork, and Saratoga Springs Cancer Centers).
  • Performing appropriate assessment of physical, social and psychological status (including cognitive, communicative and developmental skills as appropriate).
  • Seeking and evaluating information acquired from other members of interdisciplinary team: patient, family, physician, non-nursing disciplines, support staff, others.
  • Using assessment information and critical thinking skills to collaboratively develop individualized plan of care.
  • Actively seeking patient, family, team, and physician involvement to develop plan of care including needed education.
  • Collaboratively planning and preparing patients for further support needs once the current episode of care outcomes are met (i.e., teaching, referrals, and follow-up).
  • Directing the interdisciplinary care team via delegation, coordination and collaboration as appropriate.
  • Providing or delegating care consistent with plan of care, guidelines of care and professional licensure provisions.
  • Demonstrating the ability to set priorities and to coordinate and organize patient care delivery through effectively managing time, supplies, and resources.
  • Evaluating patient response to interventions through review of achievement of goals, clinical outcomes, patient and family satisfaction.
  • Revising plan of care as indicated, and reassessing changes as appropriate.
  • Promoting nursing profession and participate in development of others.
  • Integrating legal and ethical standards into practice: complying with regulatory standards, practicing within scope of licensure, providing accurate & timely documentation, and understanding legal implications of care delivery.
  • Providing clinical expertise in assigned specialty area.
  • Participating within Clinical Program initiatives and processes and monitors outcomes.
  • Implementing department or specialty care area projects or programs as identified.
  • Assisting in policy development with corporate-wide initiatives.
  • Supporting standardization and development of department protocols, policies, and procedures for patient care delivery.
  • Serving as a department and/or specialty care area representative on committees or task forces relating to area of expertise.
  • Serving as a consultant / liaison to healthcare team members, patients, families and community.
  • Acting as a resource, consultant and mentor to staff within department or specialty care area.
  • Supporting in-services related to their clinical area of specialty.
  • Utilizing current research to recommend improvements to nursing practice and to support the development of standards for nursing care of specialty patients.
