About The Position

The Registered Nurse Cardiac Cath Lab RN plays a critical role in providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and related interventional procedures. This position requires the nurse to collaborate closely with cardiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and optimal procedural outcomes. The nurse is responsible for preparing patients for procedures, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and responding promptly to any complications that may arise during interventions. Additionally, the role involves educating patients and their families about the procedure, post-procedure care, and recovery expectations. Ultimately, the RN in this role contributes significantly to the delivery of high-quality cardiovascular care within a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.   Training and Experience:  RN I must have completed individualized Cath Lab orientation period of no less than 2 weeks and generally no greater than 3 months. RN II must have completed Cath Lab Orientation and can take call-back independently

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Preferred minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in critical care, ER, telemetry, or cardiac care units.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced clinical environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specifically in a cardiac catheterization lab or interventional cardiology setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and documentation standards.
  • Strong communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Completion of specialized training or continuing education related to cardiac catheterization procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures by reviewing medical histories, obtaining vital signs, and ensuring informed consent is documented.
  • Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures by managing sterile fields, handling instruments, and monitoring patient status.
  • Administer prescribed medications and intravenous fluids, and monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications throughout the procedure.
  • Provide post-procedure care including monitoring for bleeding, arrhythmias, and other potential complications, and educate patients on recovery protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care, procedural details, and any incidents in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s cardiovascular needs.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with advances in cardiac catheterization nursing practices.
