About The Position

The Cardiac Catheterization RN/ Cardiology Educator is responsible for the overall education, competency validation, and associated tracking of staff education within the Cardiology Departments. This position requires flexibility in schedule and assignments as needed for various clinical areas, with 60% of this position providing direct care in the Cardiac Catheterization lab and 40% providing education. This position has on-call requirements. The Cardiac Catheterization RN / Cardiology Educator is a Registered Nurse who is responsible for the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and for developing, implementing, and evaluating the learning plan for improving identified deficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Providing on-going hands-on instruction, support, and staff development services in the clinic areas.
  • Maintain clinical presence in clinical areas to assist with clinical care providing direct patient and department education for the Cardiology Services as appropriate.
  • Triages and applies a collaborative team approach in identifying, analyzing, and resolving patient care problems.
  • Administration & Monitoring of Medications
  • Specific Unit Based Clinical Educator responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and implement annual and ongoing initiatives, local policies/procedure changes, accreditation preparation, The Joint Commission standards and VHA directives.
  • Conduct Just in Time training and education for staff as needed/requested on various topics.
  • Coach and mentor new and existing staff in the development and expansion of clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Facilitation of Homecare/Community referrals and recommendations to support ongoing veteran needs.
  • Works collaboratively with all levels of health care professional and support staff to facilitate positive patient care outcomes.
  • Patient and caregiver education and support.
