About The Position

The Cardiac Cath Lab RN facilitates, implements, and evaluates the patient plan of care across the continuum of cardiovascular services. This role collaborates closely with interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after cardiac procedures.

Requirements

  • A minimum one year critical care experience preferred. One year experience in a cardiac cath laboratory preferred. Must complete Point of Care Testing training as part of Department Orientation.
  • Required - Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ACLS), and National Institute Health (NIH)
  • Clear Communication Skills Both Written and Verbal
  • Able to Keep Confidential Information Regarding Patients, Team Members
  • Able to Withstand Crisis Situations
  • Has Skills to Provides Customer Service to Patients, Team Members and Visitors
  • Knowledge And Experience with Electronic Health Records
  • Current RN license
  • BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
  • ACLS- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • RN Diploma/RN Graduate Program

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates, implements, and evaluates individualized patient plans of care to promote positive patient outcomes
  • Demonstrates complete working knowledge of all equipment within the Cardiac Cath Lab
  • Maintains knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques utilized during cardiac catheterization procedures
  • Assists physicians in the scrub role, utilizing sterile techniques to prevent cross-contamination, setting up trays, preparing equipment, and positioning patients
  • Functions in the circulator role, positioning patients for digital imaging and administering medications or contrast media (if RN/tech certified) under physician supervision in accordance with departmental policy
  • Functions in the monitor/recorder role, accurately documenting procedures, operating physiologic recording systems, balancing calibration, and calculating and reporting patient data
  • Reviews patient charts for completeness and identifies indicators that may place the patient at risk
  • Maintains the pre- and post-procedure holding area and assists with patient transport as needed
  • Prepares and administers medications and contrast media under the supervision of the cardiologist
  • Provides radiation protection to patients, staff, and self in accordance with prescribed safety standards
  • Recognizes emergency situations and initiates appropriate interventions, including code procedures, first aid, or CPR
  • Maintains controlled drug inventory in compliance with hospital and regulatory policies
  • Ensures crash cart and drug boxes are fully stocked, accurate, and appropriately dated
  • Assists with inventory management, ordering supplies, and notifying the coordinator when supplies are low
  • Participates in product evaluation to identify high-quality, cost-effective supplies and equipment
  • Maintains daily work logs and participates in patient follow-up activities
  • Rotates in on-call status as required by departmental needs
  • Actively participates in performance improvement initiatives, including evaluation, reporting, and follow-up recommendations
  • Documents patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and within required timeframes
  • Serves as a patient advocate while maintaining safety, dignity, and comfort throughout the procedural experience
