About The Position

The Registered Nurse Cardiac Cath Lab I and II RN play a critical role in providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. This position requires delivering comprehensive pre-procedural, intra-procedural, and post-procedural care to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal clinical outcomes. The nurse collaborates closely with cardiologists, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate efficient workflow and high-quality patient care within the cardiac catheterization laboratory. Additionally, the role involves continuous monitoring of patients’ vital signs and cardiac status, recognizing and responding promptly to any complications or emergencies. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to the successful diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular conditions at UH WCMC and WCMCH facilities.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Prior experience or clinical exposure in cardiac care or critical care nursing preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Certification in Cardiac Vascular Nursing (RCVNS) or equivalent specialty certification.
  • Experience working in a cardiac catheterization laboratory or interventional cardiology setting.
  • Strong familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems used in cardiac care.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization procedures by conducting thorough assessments and obtaining relevant medical histories.
  • Monitor patients’ hemodynamic status and vital signs continuously during procedures, ensuring immediate intervention if abnormalities arise.
  • Assist cardiologists and interventional teams by managing sterile fields, handling specialized equipment, and administering medications as prescribed.
  • Provide post-procedural care including patient education, wound care, and monitoring for potential complications such as bleeding or arrhythmias.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care, procedural events, and outcomes in compliance with institutional policies and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain up-to-date knowledge of cardiac catheterization techniques and best practices.
  • This position requires emergency standby call weeknights and weekends. Applicant is required to be within a 30-minute time frame from the hospital for emergency callout situations.
  • Training and Experience:  RN I must complete individualized Cath Lab orientation period of no less than 2 weeks and generally no greater than 3 months. RN II must have completed Cath Lab Orientation and can take call-back independently.
